Mindfulness-Based Cancer Recovery: A Step-by-Step MBSR Approach to Help You Cope with Treatment and Reclaim Your Life

The best strategy to deal with a cancer diagnosis
Mindfulness has been the most important tool that I have found to deal with my diagnosis of breast cancer. The stress of learning to live with cancer is a corner stone of finding peace with your diagnosis, and being able to refocus on making the most out of life. Each of us is only alive in this very moment that we are breathing and with each heart beat. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery. Mindfulness really has helped me to reclaim my life and this book can show you how to do this one lesson at a time.Advice - do it one lesson at at time and master one technique at a time. Don't rush on to the next lesson, but learn all you need to from each lesson in turn.If this book has any fault it is that there isn't a CD to accompany it, as actually doing Mindfulness meditation is the best way to learn it, and it is not something to be rushed.

Most helpful and supportive book I have read on recovering from cancer.
Really helpful and pragmatic. Not a catharsis for the author. This book gives both for and against views on what you can choose to do to help yourself. So many books make you feel that if you don't follow what they are saying then you are more or less doomed. Nothing like that threatening feeling with this book. Best book on recovering from cancer that I have found. Others just depressed me or made me anxious.

This is the book I keep by me
Of all the support books for cancer I’ve tried, this is the one I’ve found I keep by me. On the whole the authors manage to avoid the smugly patronising tone of most writing on mindfulness. Though why do meditation instructions always talk about ‘the’ body, as if our body is some sort of separate object that we are viewing from afar. I like ‘Healing Walks for Hard Times’ for walking meditations that integrate mind, body and spirit without any pretentiousness. By a cancer survivor though it’s not described as such. Acupressure for releasing tensions when that seems impossible. Claire Weekes on anxiety, and EFT, for complete self-acceptance. And ‘Complex PTSD : from surviving to thriving’ for self-kindness if you have very difficult emotions to deal with too.

Very informative and helpful book
Bought this for my wife as it was recommended by a counsellor. She found it gave her a more positive outlook considering her illness. Some literature can be quite alarming, but this book is informative without being doom and gloom.

Impressive book
I originally came across the book during an assignment, and I am very impressed by the authors dedication to researching and supporting people with cancer over a long period of time. It is clear that they are a leading expert in the field and I believe their mindfulness approach is beneficial for those dealing with various challenges. Bought for my mom who was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year. Thank you to the author for this great piece

Very helpful
I recently read this book, two weeks after I finished my surgery and chemo treatments for stage four Uterine cancer. Even though my CT scans are now clear, I was having trouble with anxiety about the future. I've practiced mindfulness meditation before, but this book helped me connect the practice with the most serious and terrifying time in my life. I read it on Kindle and have since ordered a print copy so I can mark pages and flip back to certain parts I want to re-read. It's been the single best resource I've found during this trying time and I will be recommending it to friends whether the trials they're facing are health related or otherwise. I feel calm now and while I know I'll still have moments of panic, at least now I have some specific tools for dealing with them.
