as good as they say
This is an early-stage, tentative review, as I have not had much chance to test this item out in the real world. But I like to explain things, so here are first impressions.First off, I have a big head, like a 7 and 3/4 hat size, so I instinctively bought a Large. I feel it was the right decision, though a medium may have worked. The item box included head-measurement diagrams on the exterior. This would have helped for choosing a size in a brick-and-mortar store. I wish Amazon included this diagram in the description. The website is northsafety.com but none of the browsers I tried just now (to provide a link to the chart) would even connect. Go figure. For head measuring, it's mostly about the distance between your chin and the bridge of your nose at the very top.Above 12.5cm, you're a definite L. Below 10cm, a definite S. Between 10cm and 12.5cm lurk the S/M, M and M/L folks. The feature that fine-tunes this respirator to your face is that there are four very adjustable straps on each device, so there's tons of opportunity and leeway for adjusting and getting a precise and tailored fit. I assume most respirators in this price range have such adjustable straps but this is clearly a crucial, positive feature. So, for the scull-cap, the right and left side straps can be adjusted. And for the clasp that goes around the back of your neck, the right and left side straps can be adjusted. The straps are thick and sturdy, easy to adjust and can be repeatedly readjusted, if that becomes necessary.Once adjusted properly, you just place the scull-cap over the top of your head, pull the neck straps around the back and secure them. I found it took only three or four tries to be able to feel my way around and connect the neck clasp without anyone else's help, or any fuss. It's obviously designed for taking on and off again without any assistance. These straps and how they work get 5 stars from me.The triangle on your face: it is made of silicone. Not just the contact parts, the entire thing. It is soft and squishy and this is why people like it. It might stick and sweat but it does not abrade your skin. So if you're going to wear this item for 8 hours, this is definitely the material you want rubbing against your face.As for the weight, I've not worn it long enough to comment. And everyone's nose bridge varies, so the pressure and possible discomfort there will vary too. With the filters, yes, it's much heavier than, say, an N95 Aura from 3M. As other commenters note, muffled speech will be a problem. But once adjusted to my face, which did take at least a half an hour of trial and error, it felt comfortable on my head and seemed to form a proper seal.Again, this is my first impression out of the box. I hope to come back later to comment on use in the wild. This post relates to my use for respiratory virus protection.

It fits well and soft been using half mask for 40 years
This is the forth one I have had and like them all very well (third half mask). Bought this one for a back up and possibly for my wife. The full face mask is great for attic work or spraying poison. The half masks are great for several tasks and are comfortable to wear. I got the kind that has filters can be replaced by popping it open and putting a new one in which is a lot cheaper than replacing the whole cannister. I bought this one to replace the one that had a broken harness. Parts are not cheap so I decided to just buy a new one and use the old one for parts if I needed any in the future. My only advice is to note that they come in small, medium and large, and you may want to research to get the correct size.

Great General Purpose and Welding Mask
Fits great under a SpeedGlas 9100X helmet when using the low profile pancake filters. Though you need to run your hood a little farther forward to clear the respirator.A solid choice for keeping metal smoke and tons of grinding dust out of your lungs and on the floor where it belongs. Stay out of the black booger gang! lolRelatively comfy, easy to clean out, and shares the same filters as my North full face mask.

Overall great mask
Love the mask. The construction materials used. Only things wrong was the box and to bag the mask was in. Inside the box was damaged. The bag was open inside the box and the box itself was ripped and crushed. Other then those points great product.

Very effective for smoke and dust!!!
For those dealing with smoke from wildland fires, for those working outdoors in the dust and dirt of dry weather, or those sanding or sawing materials creating dust, this mask along with the North 7531N95 Filter Assembly, this mask is so effective that even on the most smoke-filled days I cannot even smell the smoke AT ALL! If I lift the mask slightly I can immediately smell just how strong the smoke is! Even when the sky is grey and I can barely see the hill that is less than ½ mile away, I can work for hours outside with no ill effects at all from the smoke.Beyond that, the inhale valves under the filter attachment points and the center exhale valve work so well that there is virtually no difference in my ability to breathe even when doing heavy work like digging or swinging a heavy pick.FIT: The distance between the top of the bridge of my nose and the bottom edge of my chin is about 5.5 to 5.75 inches with my mouth closed. I also have a nicely trimmed beard (about .4" hair length). The large size mask puts a bit of pressure on my nose at the top area of the mask. It takes some careful adjustment of the straps to keep it comfortable. That very well may be just a problem with me and the shape of my nose which I broke about two years ago. But even with the mask a tiny bit loose in a few spots and having the seal interfered with a little because of my beard, it still effectively filters out all the air I breathe. This mask will last for may years and it can be disassembled easily (ever the strap assembly can be removed from the silicone body) and the mask washes up like new. I suggest getting the 10 pack of replacement filter medium. And in the long run, if need be, even the flapper valves can be purchased separately.Protect your lungs - get this mask!
