A handy ups for the home
A handy device to handle power outages for PC and related devices like routers, printers etc. It comes into action if the voltage drops below a certain level which is useful but confusing when it starts beeping even though the power still seems to be on.

Decent low budget UPS. Make sure to choose the model for your needs.
I bought the 850VA and 1050VA models. Interestingly, these both come with the same battery, a Leoch brand 12V 9.0Ah unit. I thought this was a mistake at first, but the pdf manual confirms that both of these models take the same replacement battery.Since the battery is ultimately what determines the charging capacity of the UPS, I assume that in most circumstances the cheaper model will run off its battery just as long as the more expensive model. The main difference between the two seems to be the maximum load that they can take when running off battery (520W vs 600W) . So if you need to run high load equipment, the more expensive model may be better.Another peculiarity I noticed is that if you disconnect the UPS from the mains when it’s fully charged, when you reconnect it it will flash one bar as though it’s fully discharged. I think this must be some recalibration thing, as a few minutes later it will show the correct charge.Mine came with the data cable that allows your computer or NAS (but not both) to monitor the charge and take action to shut down when the UPS charge falls below a certain threshold. This works with my M1 Mac and my Synology NAS with no additional software required. There is PC software by APC (PowerChute) which allows full access to the UPS’s settings. There does not seem to be any equivalent software for Macs so I’m limited to the basic shutdown features built into MacOS.

Fab
Just installed this. Looks great. Installed it and software. Tried it by switching power off at wall socket. PC shutdown gracefully. Power chute software works in a web browser with local host address. That wasn't obvious on documentation or setup. Apart from that seems to do everything as advertised.

bad battery life. barely get 3 minutes of battery now for a basic TV during a powercut
when I first got this the battery would allow me to watch my TV for about 45 minutes during a powercut.less then 1 year of us that dropped to 25 minutes.. Just few months later then that it's now 3 minutes maximum. only had 4 powercuts in a year and it's just very bad now.battery life is abysmal. if it can't even run a TV for more then 2 to 3 minuted from fully charged how can it work for a computer and shut down safely?very expensive for such poor performance. and of course the problems starter just mere moments after the 12 month guarantee ended!
