Best Multipen out there I've tried.
Let me begin by saying, I'm a HUGE fan of rollerball pens that don't smudge when writing. So much so, that I actually removed Yhr Monte Blanc Cartridge from my Monte Blanc and used a different cartridge just to experience a rollerball that doesn't smudge. That being said, this is a GREAT pen, at the moment this one has become my daily driver and I absolutely love the pen size, the consistent ink flow, it's comfort and grip size are perfect. To be honest, I am / was a bit astonished by how normally sized the pen was given the fact that it has, Black, Blue, Red, and Pencil options in the one pen. And unlike basically any other multi ink pens, this one is Not Abnormally thick. You won't be displeased by this pen, it's not a cheap pen, but rest assured you get MUCH MUCH more than what you're paying for.

My Favorite Multi-Pen
As someone who is addicted to writing implements (I can stop buying them any time, right?) I have to say this is, overall, the nicest multipen I've had.It seems well made. The matte finish gives a decent, non-slippery grip. Its metal construction gives it a nice mid-weight, heavier than plastic but not so heavy one would notice it much. Although a bit wider than a stick pen, I find this remarkably slim for a three ink plus pencil combo unit.It uses the standard multi-pen refill, the Type D1. The three included when you buy it are of course Jetstreams. For those not familiar with them, the Jetstream is a hybrid ballpoint; it falls somewhere between the familiar old school ballpoint pen and a gel pen. Jetstreams in particular have a fine reputation as smooth writers. These refills are excellent that way, exhibiting both the Jetstream smoothness and its good line quality, heavier and darker than most ballpoints.Of course a darker line means the ink will be used up sooner. D1 refills don't hold much ink, and Jetstream D1 refills are more expensive than most, so this may be a concern. One could use less expensive, standard ball point D1 refills from any number of other companies if expense is a worry. It is a standard refill type, so there are many brands available. As for the multi-pen itself, it is nicely made. It is mostly metal. The lower barrel rotates reasonably smoothly to switch between the various pens and pencil; not as smoothly as my Zebra Sharbo X, but that only has three units; two pens and one pencil. Didn't come with them either, you had to buy them extra. The Uni comes fully loaded and ready to go.You can change ink colors by turning the lower barrel either way. I had another pen where you could only turn it one way; once you went past blue, for example, the only way to get back to it was to continue all the way around until it came up again. You couldn't turn the pen one notch backward. It's surprising how annoying this gets after a while.Turning the barrel the "wrong way," the direction that would unscrew the barrel so that you can remove it and replace worn-out ballpoints, risks unscrewing the barrel when all you wanted to do was change ink color. However, only the lower three quarters or so of the barrel actually come off when you want to replace refills. There's about an inch wide section, the flared part just below the pen's clip, that doesn't come off. Grip this section when turning the barrel the "wrong way"and it won't unscrew on you.The pen can have a slight rattle when writing, but no worse than I have encountered in ordinary, single color, push button retractable pens. All in all a neat gadget. I like it very much.

Top Uni Pencil
Very well made. Feels comfortable in the hands. Wonderfully crafted. Speed in writing and switching modes is easy.

Good Quality Pen with Minor Annoyances
I'm currently in school right now and use multi color pens to color code my notes. My last two multi color pens, both the Zebra Clip-On Multi 2000 4 Color, worked great except for the mechanical pencil function which would retract itself frequently while I used it. Because of the consistency of the problem, I decided to try another pen. The quality of the Uni is up there with the Zebra. I have accidentally washed both these pens in the washer and neither ruined any clothing. I'm not endorsing this action, but it's good to know you probably won't ruin laundry if you screw up. The Uni feels solid in your hand. It can scratch if you rub something pretty abrasive up against it but it's pretty resistant to drops and everyday wear and tear. Like my previous Zebra, it rattles a bit when you shake it but didn't bother me while I write with it. I doubt there's a way to construct a pen like this that doesn't rattle so I'm not going to call it a negative. It has a good quality pen clip on it that is pretty tight to the pen. The threads on all unscrewable parts are finely machined and look high quality. At the top of the pen clip is a cheap looking biue crystal. I feel it detracts from the nice expensive look of the pen and should be rejected from future updates. That's my only complaint about the look. The pen writes smoothly and all colors look as I would expect them to. It writes more consistently than the Zebra (no random breaks in pen writing). One notable difference between the Uni and the Zebra is the Uni only has three pen colors: red, blue, and black. The Zebra had all those plus green. For me, green was relatively useless but something to definitely keep in mind.Switching between colors with the Uni has been almost flawless. Each color and the mechanical pencil function snaps into place with a solid snap as you twist the pen. Other multi color pens often have you push down a corresponding tab downward to switch between different writing tools. I found the Uni twisting superior since there's no way it can accidentally switch functions and it feels less cheap. On the Uni, there is enough resistance between each writing function that I haven't accidentally switched between them. The only issue I have is that after roughly 20 or so switches between writing functions, the pen starts to unscrew to access all the different pen and the pencil cartridges. The threads are fine on this so it would take a lot of turns before it came apart. It's just a slight annoyance to have to tighten your pen every now and again. The only way to mitigate this would be to only switch functions in the "tightening" direction, but most aren't going to bother with this. Very slight annoyance, not a deal breaker. What makes this pen better for me was the mechanical pencil function. As I previously said, both Zebra pens I owned had an issue where the mechanical pencil would randomly retract when used. With the Uni, it's not a problem, you just twist to the mechanical pencil function--and it stays there =) Also, If you expect to use the pencil function often, I would plan to have a supplement eraser on you because this pen's eraser is small. One last thing, having no writing utensil currently selected is the only way to retract the writing ability. You cannot just push down the top of the pen like you can on a normal cheap bic pen. You will also need to be close to exactly between two writing functions in order to be fully retracted (for example, if the pen functions are at the 3,6,9 and 12 hour marks on a clock, then in order to completely retract all functions, the selection needs to be halfway between 3 and 6). This is because as you near a writing selection, the tip of the pen or the pencil starts to peek out the end. Again, a minor thing I noticed over time and not a deal breaker. For the TLDR: this pen this does everything well but not perfectly. The blue crystal on top of the pen clip detracts from the high quality of the rest of the pen. The pen can be accidentally unscrewed over time by switching writing functions in the same direction as the unscrewing direction of the body of the pen. Finally, in order to have all pen and pencil functions fully retracted, you must leave your twisting selection about halfway between two different choices. All in all, I found this pen to be an improvement over my previous Zebra. Would buy again. 4.5/5, I round down.
