Triumph Motorcycle Restoration: Unit 650cc

Great Photos
This book is full of great photos of both disassembly and mostly assembly of these machines. Much of the engine rebuild is passed over and you won't learn to restore a bike from this book. It does have a few handy tips, I especially appreciated the front-end assembly methods. They do it completely different than I've seen it done before and theirs is a far more logical a process. The book is worth the price for the photos alone. More often than not, we start with machines that are not stock or original and we have a bit of puzzle on our hands. Inside this book are detailed photographs of how the machines should be in stock/original condition. The only reason I gave it four stars rather than five is because I find the cover to be misleading. You absolutely will not learn how to lace the wheels from this book. It's a useful tool to aid in a restoration process, but it's not a start to finish guide to Triumph motorcycle restoration.

Must-Have Book for British Motorcycle Afficionados
This book is a great companion to the Clymer or Hayes shop manuals. The photos are bright and clear and in color, unlike a lot of the b&w photos in the manuals. Explanations of procedures and parts are decent, but not super in-depth or technical. Reasonably priced and very practical- you'll probably want two of these books: one for your shelf, and one for your shop or garage to get grease and grime all over the pages. The book also has a decent section on identifying & differentiating the 'classic' years of T120's and TR6's.You'll want to read it through a few times, because the photos don't always seem to follow the logical order of the procedures they're illustrating; a few sections are numbered sequentially and this is very helpful.

Triumph Motorcycle Restoration: Remus and Chitwood
This book will augment but not replace the workshop manual for a '68 T100 restoration I am planning. It is basically a step-by-step photographic journal of a restoration performed by professionals, and is not intended to be an engineering reference. I was initially a little disappointed with the content but now that I also have the original Triumph workshop manual I believe this book will provide some practical hints and tips that the Triumph manual would not give me.

Triumph Motorcycle Restoration
I'm with Steven Karp on this book: its clear pictures and no-nonsense text helps make sense of the stilted prose and muddy B&W photos of other manuals. Whilst Remus and Chitwood's focus is on the T120, I found it invaluable trying to decipher the pics in Haynes manuals when working on my T140. I thought the photographs of component parts particularly helpful. This is a book that not only gave me a benchmark for rebuilding to which I can only dream to aspire, but it gives you clear colour pics illustrating the steps to take to get there. It doesn't replace your workshop manual, or those DVDs showing you how to strip down your motor - but then it doesn't purport to. However, it's a great companion piece, especially if, like me, you're attempting a rebuild from a box of bits and have to scour magazines and books to see where a component goes because you didn't tear the bike down yourself so don't have a record of its strip-down, and aren't so well off as to have a complete example to hand to compare it against - and Remus and Chitwood's book is very readable to boot.
