Jazwares Killed First Act
I gave my oldest son a First Act Discovery guitar for Christmas a decade ago, and it survived to become his little brother's guitar. It's got a solid wood neck, wood sides and back, laminate soundboard, wood saddle, standard bridge, and a fretboard with inlaid frets. I still plink around on it for funsies and change the strings every so often when they go dull. I've even covered up little patches of paint transferred from the walls when it got carried carelessly down a hallway or put down a little to roughly next to the toy bin. With the knowledge of how tough that little guitar is, I purchased this item as a cheap camping guitar thinking I was getting the same build and quality.I was sadly mistaken. The entire guitar is made from prefab plastic pieces that are glued together. The back of the neck is textured, which leads to poor playability and would leave a little kid frustrated while trying to complete chord changes. The fretboard is injection-molded plastic with "frets" that are molded into the fretboard. The saddle is plastic and molded INTO the soundboard. The bridge is a non-standard thickness and can't be easily replaced with standard bridges without heavy sanding, which is a huge problem considering it started making cracking noises just during tuning to standard (EADGBE). Even with stretching the strings, it wouldn't hold tuning on any string.Long story short, purchase another item for your kid or for yourself if you want your kiddo to learn basic guitar or as a travel guitar. This First Act Discovery guitar isn't worth a dime. Jazwares should be ashamed of what they've done to the First Act line of musical products. They used to be a way to actually learn the basics of an instrument; now they're just useless paperweights.

A good first guitar for a young child
I purchased this guitar for a theatrical production where the plastic body would be helpful in keeping the guitar from breaking with dancing and weird frog characters hoping around with it. However, for practical use this guitar is best suited for a young child. Be forewarned that the guitar does not hold tune well. You will need to return after every use or even during if you are playing it for a prolonged period. But it is sturdy and comes with strings. The body is quite small, but fine for a child.

Beautiful guitar for a toddler
This was purchased for our four year old daughter and is perfect for her age range. I don't know that I would try smashing it on the floor, but it seems durable enough. The tune doesn't hold well. The sound is alright. Overall, I would buy it again for anyone looking for a beginner guitar for toddlers - as something for them to pretend with, but a few steps up from dollar store cheapies.

Perfect “real” guitar for children
It can be tuned and sounds good, not just a cheap toy. It looks like a real wood guitar, but made of sturdy plastic. Good quality. I got it for my 2 1/2 year old and he’s thrilled with it! It’s a little big for him so you might consider getting a strap.
