dUg Pinnick At The Top Of His Game
`Naked' is dUg Pinnick's latest endeavor outside of King's X, and it would be difficult to describe it as anything less than his best. Pinnick wrote, played, recorded, produced, and mixed the album by himself at his own dUgtone Studio in Los Angeles, enlisting help only from Mark Fuller for mastering, and the assistance of one of my all-time favorite guitarists - Tracey `Spacey T' Singleton [Sound Barrier, Fishbone, Praise The Dead] - for one guitar lead. Musically, `Naked' is classic dUg Pinnick. Those huge, crazy, booty-shakin' bass lines that he's become synonomous with over the past three decades with King's X? `Naked' is chock full of `em. That classic vocal delivery, full of passion and power and more soul than a warehouse full of vintage Motown 45's? Oh yeah. It's there... and how! And the guitars? Pinnick isn't known for his guitar-playing, but he's always written songs on guitar and has played - leads and solos and everything - on all of his previous solo releases, including the two albums released under the Poundhound moniker, and here he wrangles sounds out of his preferred instrument (a Schecter 7-string) that will make even the snobbiest of guitar snobs sit up and take notice. Lyrically, `Naked' is personal and reflective and uplifting and... well, perfect. Pinnick shatters preconceptions about life - his, mine, yours, everyone's - in a stark, revealing manner that never seems anything less than brutally honest, and he wraps these truths and revelations in such a thick and inviting blanket of hooks and grooves that it would be easy to overlook the words altogether until the third or fourth spin, when you'll find yourself unconsciously singing along with reckless abandon, a huge smile plastered on your thoroughly rocked face. I could go on and on until this review more closely resembled a doctorate thesis on rock `n' roll than a simple record review, but that wouldn't be in keeping with the spirit of the subject matter. `Naked' is raw. It's honest and it's real. Its songs all make their points and move on, leaving the listener changed for the better. To overthink or overanalyze them here would be as much of a crime as not letting this record into your life. Do yourself a favor: get `Naked'.

Amazing songs and Beautiful, Monster riffs...
I bought this CD for two songs that I kept playing over and over on Youtube, "What You Gonna Do" (fantastic self-shot video) and "That Great Big Thing" (which has the greatest, funkiest guitar riff created since Dimebag's "Walk". It's my favorite Dug song ever.). I've always been a KX fan, but this CD is amazing - brutally honest lyrics, perfect guitar and bass, do I hear keyboards on a couple of songs?, strongest vocals and melodies I've heard from Dug in years - I'm blown away. He says he uses a drum program for the drums, but the swing of these drum tracks sounds like a live person...How's he do that? Every aspect of this album from writing to performance to production is just the best. "Courage", "The Point", "Speeding Love", SO many good songs...Bravo! P.S. -- Watch the last look Dug gives in the "What You Gonna Do" video, cracks me up. After all the angst screaming and heavy faces he makes throughout the song, he gives a sideways tilt of his head and a wry smile that, to me, says you can be heavy and hard-core yet still have a heart and humanity and a sense of humor. That's why I love his music.

another great solo record from DUg
This is another great record from DUg Pinnick(King's X). When I first heard that he was doing all the playing on the record(singing, drumming, etc.) I didn't think it would be that good as I prefer a full band w/ different musicians but this turned out great. All songs are heavy and catchy. If you like the last record (Strum Sum Up) you'll like this one. I think this better than previous efforts. Ain't That the Truth and Take Me Away From You are my favs. I bought the CD because some of the reviews on hear mentioned a problem w/ the mp3 version. The CD sounds and plays great It looks like the mp3 version has been taken at the time I'm writing this so maybe it'll be fixed soon but I still prefer the CD format.

Dug does it again! Buy this!
I'm a fan,so my review is completely biased. I love the heavy, groovy nature of the majority of the tracks on the album (yeah, I said album ; ). "Courage" has a great message in the lyrics and I believe that is my new motto for this year "Do something that you think you can't!". The chorus crushes on this track as well, so play this and all the tracks on a good system capable and worthy of the sonic range Dug was given us here. I could go on and on about this or any of Dug's work with King's X, solo or side projects. He is a super gracious guy whom I got to meet briefly after the King's X show at Scout Bar last May and this is what he does for a living, so just do yourself a favor, buy this, don't copy it online from somewhere and Go Tell Somebody!

dUg delivers
I have been listening to dUg since 1989. Whether it's King's X, Solo, or guest appearances he always puts so much passion into what he is doing. That being said this has to be the most passionate and connected I have ever heard from him. I have listened over and over again and each time it grows on me a little more. The sound is absolutely naked as is the emotion.Mr. Pinnick thank you for making the music you need to make. Because it's what we all need to hear!PS. The digital copies are as the other folks mentioned screwed up. That does not reflect on the artist but Amazon/distributor does need to get this fixed. And the tracks correctly labeled.

Dug Killed it this Time
Amazing CD, it grabs you and never lets go. Very personal and heartfelt lyrics, that make you feel Dug is singing your life story! Every song is a masterpiece that stands on it's on, no filler here!It is really too bad someone gave this killer CD a One Star rating, because Amazon jacked up the MP3s he bought. You are reviewing the artist not the company that screwed up the delivery of your product. Buy the CD and you won't have to worry about crappy sounding MP3s!!!! This CD is amazing and not deserving of a One star rating!

Fantastic new big rockin' solo slab of music from dUg!
Well here in 2013 now he have the latest new solo album from the legend singer/bassist from the influential rock band KING'S X; Dug Pinnick. This is not his first solo album, there have been around half a dozen so far and he is known for guesting on recording projects with many various musicians over the years, experimenting in funk, rock, grunge, doom stoner sounds, even a little industrial. This cool new album, is a bit shorter than his equallt excellent previous solo album, and doesn't have the extended jam sections this time. This is a coleection of shorter but very infectious and very well crafted songs, from a legend guy who certainly knows how to write a great tune that will sink into your mind and groove around in there for days to come.As Dug and the guitarist Ty from KING'S X both have put out a good few solo albums each over the last ten or more years, Ty tends to usually sound more 70's melodic retro rock in style while Dug usually seems to lean toward much heavier rock sounds and clear funk bass as he adds into KING'S X often. He has spoken on promo video clips for this album as it being a very personal album, and the lyrics do deal with serious issues of life like money, depression, fear, love, confusion and this is quite genuinely remarkable and to be very respected. And with these sets of very honest lyrics are put some very impressive catchy strong songs, featuring some absolutely great fine heavy riffing, choruses and big funk grooves. This man can always be counted on to put out top quality stunning tunes as he has been doing with KING'S X and solo now for many years.Go check out this great album if you are a fan of KING'S X, Led Zeppelin, James Brown, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, Foo Fighters and just fantastic great rock in general- you will not be dissapointed at all.
