Q: Would this be a good felling axe/how thick are the cheeks of the axe?

Is the Dayton design is a felling ax. You'll be swinging 3.5 pounds of axe. Any chopping you'll work to fell a tree. Sharpening properly will definitely reduce the number of swings it will take.

hickory handle has been great. durable...holding up just fine

Q: is this a ok splitter? I know its not a purpose made splitter

Yes. I use it for splitting oak. It works fine. It's not going to go through knots, but it's fine otherwise.
