A Fantastic Purchase!
I've never used a tagine but love Moroccan food. So, after a little bit of research, decided to buy the Emile Henry one.I cooked a very basic lamb and mint stew and it was fantastic! The Emile Henry tagine does not have a vent, steam cannot really escape from it and so recirculates. This means that you don't have to use as much liquid as a recipe would ask for. Know knowing this, the next time I cook something I will add probably half as much water as directed. As I stated at the beginning of this review, I've never used a tagine before so getting to heat up was trial and error. The placed a Nordic Ware heat diffuser on the electric stove and started to heat the tagine up on a low heat for about 10 minutes (make sure you have liquid such as oil or water in the base of the tagine otherwise you may end up cracking it). Then I turned up the heat slowly until it was hot enough to add the onions and spices.I'll definitely be using this in the future!Oh, as for how the food turned out: the lamb held its shape whilst being extremely soft, the tomatoes were not mush, and the courgettes still have a little bite to them! :)

Tangine does a great job
We took a cooking class that used tagines. This one does a great job. It's fun to create new recipes with it.

Beautiful Large Tagine.
I am glad I purchased this beautiful tagine. It appears large enough to feed a family or to make enough Morrocan food prep for the week. The item came packaged well and arrived in perfect condition.

Cracked after using 3x and Seller Unresponsive to inquiry!
I was told this was one of the best (and most expensive) brands to buy. After using 3 times under normal conditions the top cracked from the inside out! Contacted seller and still no response after weeks! Super disappointed with seller and product.

There are better options
This item arrived broken due to poor packaging. I got a refund eventually after sending a photo. That said, this will always be a fragile piece. If you take it out of the oven and put it on something wet (stovetop?), it will be likely to crack.Obviously, it can't be dropped or bumped into anything. Ratings of tagines indicate that although clay is authentic, cast iron is a better choice. Supposedly it is more expensive, but it isn't. Take a look on Amazon at Bruntmor. a 4-qt tagine is $75 and will last forever. Preseasoned and nonstick. I think it is very attractive, too. Don't be tempted by tagines with open lids; that defeats the purpose of keeping the moisture inside.
